If you are looking for a Karate Club for yourself or your children you should ask yourself several questions, like: "How long has the club been going?" (a club with a long history shows that it is ready to invest in the future), "Is the club recognised as teaching good quality traditional Karate?" (there are many of what we call 'play karate' clubs around), and "Has the senior instructor been externally examined or are they self promoted?" (Senior instructors of many clubs have graded themselves to the rank they currently hold).

Kenshinkai Shotokan Karate Club is one of the oldest Shotokan Karate clubs in the country (established June 1972). It was founded by the late Eddie Whitcher who trained in the JKA Instructors class in Japan under Sensei Nakayama in the 1960's. Sensei Nakayama was the senior student to Gichin Funakoshi, the founder of modern day Karate. This puts our club only four levels down from Funakoshi Sensei and maintains the pure Japanese Shotokan lineage.

Kenshinkai has it's own dedicated facilities which include two purpose built training halls which are mirrored and air conditioned, together with several acres of outside training grounds which also house a fully equipped gym, an archery centre and even it's own bar (Caribbean Bar) . The main training hall (dojo) is available for students to train 7 days a week (see also www.suffolkacademy.com)

Kenshinkai has a team of 17 both professional and part time instructors so classes are never cancelled.  All adult instructors are officially qualified, have experience in both teaching and major competitions, and are fully CRB checked.

The current Chief Instructor is Sensei Glen Moulds 5th Dan who was the senior instructor to Eddie Whitcher and took over the club on his death. Sensei Moulds was graded to 5th Dan under Sensei Mikio Yahara 8th Dan (see picture below) and a Japanese grading panel in June 2005. You can read more about Sensei in the menu on the left.

Kenshinkai welcomes both adult and children beginners and advanced students to join the club. We also welcome other clubs to join us if you are looking for a friendly and traditional Shotokan organisation with the importance on training and not politics.
